Here's what we were working with - overgrown shrubs crowding the front of the house, no real definition between the beds and the lawn, and a yard that just looked tired. Not a bad home by any means, but the landscaping wasn't doing it any favors.
We pulled everything out and started fresh. The old shrubs came out, the beds got cleaned up, and we installed fresh edging to give every border a crisp, defined line. That edging detail matters more than most people realize - it's what separates a landscape that looks "done" from one that just looks like stuff growing in the dirt.
Then came the rock. We used 2-4 inch river rock throughout the front and side beds. This size is a great choice for a couple of reasons. It's heavy enough to stay put, it doesn't wash out like smaller rock or mulch tends to, and it has that natural, rounded look that works really well against a brick home like this one. The mix of colors in the stone - grays, tans, pinks - ties in nicely with both the brick and the teal-blue trim on the house.
The result is a front yard that's sharp, clean, and honestly just really easy to live with going forward. No more re-mulching every year. No more shrubs taking over the siding. The beds hold their shape, the edging keeps everything where it belongs, and the whole front of the home just reads as polished and intentional.
River rock installs like this one are a great fit for homeowners who want curb appeal without the ongoing maintenance. Pair it with clean edging and the right plant choices, and you've got a yard that looks great year after year with very little effort.
